Bidirectional CSV and JSON Data Converter
Transform RFC 4180 CSV tables into JSON arrays and flatten nested JSON objects back into delimited CSV files with custom separators.
01. RFC 4180 Standards & Lexical State-Machine Parsing
Comma-Separated Values (CSV) is defined under RFC 4180 as a tabular text format featuring optional header rows, comma delimiters, and double-quote escaping for cells containing delimiters, line breaks, or quotation marks.
Our converter employs a streaming character-by-character lexical automaton that correctly parses embedded commas inside quotes ("Smith, John"), escaped quotes (""hello""), and multiline record cells (CRLF or LF). It automatically detects field delimiters (commas, semicolons, tabs, and pipes) and infers boolean, numeric, and null literals when type parsing is active.
Unlike simplistic string-split implementations that break on commas within quotes or drop trailing commas, this RFC 4180 engine preserves field fidelity across diverse spreadsheet exports from Excel, Google Sheets, and PostgreSQL COPY commands.
- State Machine Lexer: Correctly tokenizes quoted cells containing line breaks and delimiters without corrupting record boundaries.
- Delimiter Auto-Detection: Intelligently identifies whether input is comma, semicolon, tab (TSV), or pipe-separated.
- Type Coercion Engine: Translates numeric values, booleans, and nulls into native JSON types with BigInt overflow safeguards.
- Zero Data Uploads: Operates 100% inside your browser's V8/SpiderMonkey memory for total enterprise data privacy.
02. Bidirectional Conversion & Nested Object Dot-Notation
When converting hierarchical JSON to flat CSV, the engine flattens nested keys using dot-notation (e.g. user.address.city). When converting CSV back into JSON with 'Flatten / Unflatten Nested Objects' enabled, the engine reconstructs the parent object hierarchy.
To prevent silent data corruption, our collision-safe mapping engine checks for key overlap between scalar values and nested sub-objects (such as columns a and a.b). If an input column explicitly uses a synthetic key like a._value alongside a, the engine dynamically isolates colliding paths into unique, collision-proof properties so zero user data is ever overwritten or lost.
03. Resolving Header Collisions & Duplicate Columns
In real-world data pipelines, CSV files frequently arrive with duplicate header names (e.g. id, id, id_2). Rather than silently overwriting earlier values or dropping duplicate columns, the parser inspects existing headers and appends incremental collision suffixes (id_3), ensuring every single cell in every row is captured.
Users receive immediate visual notification whenever header collision mitigation or nested path restructuring is applied.
04. Step-by-Step Conversion & Export Workflow
1. Paste your raw CSV table or JSON payload into the input editor.
2. Select your conversion mode (CSV → JSON or JSON → CSV).
3. Toggle 'Flatten / Unflatten Nested Objects' to preserve or expand dot-notated hierarchies.
4. Toggle 'Parse Numbers & Booleans' depending on whether types should be coerced or preserved as raw strings.
5. Review the real-time syntax output and copy to clipboard or download as .json / .csv.
- Collision-Resilient: Guaranteed preservation of every column value even under duplicate or conflicting keys.
- Large Payload Performance: Decodes 150,000+ rows (15MB CSV) in sub-second execution times.
- Enterprise Air-Gapped Ready: 100% offline functionality with zero external API calls.
05. Data Transformation & Spreadsheet Ingestion Pipeline
Convert structured JSON datasets directly into Excel workbooks with our JSON to Excel Converter, convert relational database exports using SQL to JSON Converter, or validate JSON schema syntax with the JSON Formatter & Validator.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is my data transmitted to external servers?
No. The entire engine executes 100% locally inside your browser memory.
Does this tool work offline as a PWA?
Yes. Once loaded, all core algorithms run offline without network connectivity.
What are the performance limits for processing large CSV files?
The RFC 4180 parsing engine processes CSV files up to 15 MB (approx. 150,000 rows) in 400–900 ms in browser memory, automatically handling duplicate headers, quoted multiline cells, and large integers safely.
Are outputs formatted according to official industry standards?
Yes. All conversions follow official web and data standards. This ensures your outputs work smoothly across Linux, macOS, and Windows systems.
Is CSV to JSON, JSON to CSV & CSV Viewer free to use with any rate limits or paywalls?
Core tools are free to use without an account. Device memory and tool-specific safety limits apply. Optional AI and online contact services have usage limits.
